Community Initiatives

Community-based projects

Would you like to work towards creating a world in which young people can make their own informed and conscious choices about their sexual and reproductive health?

To increase the diversity of learning opportunities regarding sexual and reproductive health in the community, Children by Choice are seeking to build bridges with other community-based groups. We are interested in engaging in community-based projects in which we can work alongside young people, to enhance young people's knowledge and skills about sexual and reproductive health choices.

Community-based workshops

Would your community or clients like to learn more about:

  • Exploring sexuality?
  • What a respectful relationship might look like?
  • How to negotiate sexual decision making?
  • Contraception possibilities?
  • How to prevent and treat Sexually Transmitted Infections?
  • Unplanned pregnancy decision pathways?
  • And much more?

Children by Choice community educators are committed to creating learning partnerships with community-based groups. We are open to exploring more about your learning interests, to tailoring workshops and training events to suit your clients' interests. We seek to create learning opportunities that are experiential, interactive and engaging for participants.

Community-based Information Stalls

Would you like us to share information on reproductive health and unplanned pregnancy options in your community?

For a number of years now, Children by Choice have presented information on reproductive health, unplanned pregnancy and abortion, at expos and events across Queensland.

Many young people visited our information stall at the Big Day Out on the Gold Coast 2004.  This display highlighted safe sex and the emergency contraception option, available over the counter from pharmacists since 1 January 2004.

In Brisbane at Sexpo, our display in the sexual health section was visited by hundreds of people over four days.

Future Community Initiatives

Future initiatives may include the development of interactive web sessions and video conferencing, to reach rural and remote Queensland more easily.
