Make plans for the future

Here is a list of things you may wish to do, now or in the future, to help you move on from your experience. Feel free to add things to this list, and only do the things that you feel comfortable doing.

  • Get some information on contraception and discuss with your doctor what’s best for you.
  • Write a letter to the clinic to give them feedback about their service or suggestions for the future.
  • Prepare a ritual to mark the event or to say goodbye.
  • Tell someone you trust about your experience.
  • Create situations that make you feel good.
  • Be aware of the situations that contribute to your negative feelings and avoid these situations where possible.
  • Assess what you can and cannot control in making yourself feel good.
  • Develop and practise assertiveness skills.
  • Make decisions regarding relationship, career, life direction or future goals and plan to follow through with these decisions.
  • Remember reasons for your decision – make a list.
  • Remember your strengths – make a list by yourself and ask friends or family.

Remember the positives as well. Put the experience in perspective.
