Address spiritual questions

Some people have spiritual beliefs or unanswered questions of a spiritual nature around their decision. Some beliefs and questions may be around the effects of your decision in relation to good and bad karma? Does the foetus have a spirit? Where does the foetus's spirit or soul go? To answer these questions, it may be useful to think about what you believe happens to a soul when someone dies. And at what stage in a pregnancy do you think it gets a soul? Can souls inhabit other pregnancies or bodies? Each person has different spiritual and religious beliefs and so there may be many different answers to these questions.

Some people may also have spiritual questions around why the pregnancy occurred? Was there a reason for the pregnancy occurring? These questions are commonly raised in both decision-making counselling and counselling after an abortion. Many people believe that the pregnancy occurred for a reason and so it can often be helpful for people with these beliefs to explore what that reason could be. Exploring the reason for the pregnancy can be very positive as it can assist you to think and plan for the future. This may be in relation to career or study plans, the future of the relationship, what contraception to use, travel plans or putting life dreams or learnings into action. Exploring the reasons for the pregnancy can be an important step to moving on.
