At Children by Choice, we are advocates in ensuring people have access to local, affordable and accessible healthcare. People living in rural or regional areas regularly experience additional barriers to accessing reproductive healthcare.
Long distances, limited transport, and a shortage of trained doctors can make it difficult to find clear information and timely health care. In some areas, local hospitals or clinics may not provide abortion or contraception services. Others may only offer limited appointments or rely on visiting staff.
These barriers can mean people have to:
When healthcare is far away or hard to access, decisions about pregnancy can feel more stressful and urgent. Everyone deserves the same level of safe, respectful, and timely health care no matter where they live.
In smaller communities, stigma and privacy concerns can make it hard to ask for help, and can cause providers to worry about being known as abortion providers in their communities. Some people worry about being recognised at a clinic or judged
for their choices. This can lead to delays in care or trying to manage a pregnancy alone.
Stigma can also stop people from talking openly with family, friends, or health professionals.
Everyone has the right to make their own decision about their pregnancy, whether that means continuing, ending, or considering adoption.
Support should always be non-judgemental, confidential, and respectful.
We can help cover the cost for people who need abortion care and can’t afford it. Call us to check your eligibility for financial support.
