Language Guide

About: This guide provides an overview of some of the key terms that Children by Choice uses in our work to talk about our services, clients and associated concepts. It is not an exhaustive list of terms, but rather outlines words and phrases in our organisational vocabulary that have been updated to reflect global best practice, evidence, and the preferences of our diverse stakeholders.

*A note on gender-neutral/inclusive language:

Gender-neutral language refers to language that does not identify gender, for example, using the term ‘pregnant people’. This language is useful when talking in general terms, and is useful to avoid making assumptions about who can and cannot get pregnant/need access to abortion. Gender-inclusive language is about using gendered language in an intentional way, being accurately representative of the people you are talking about, for example, our services are available for women, non-binary people and trans men.
