Children by Choice is a pro-choice women-centred organisation in Queensland. We provide information on all pregnancy options: abortion, adoption and parenting. If you are living outside Queensland and seeking information about abortion services in your state or territory, see the information below. Please note that services offered vary from clinic to clinic, and that there may be additional providers who are not listed below. Please be aware that while we do our best to make sure information is up to date, there may be changes to the services listed below that we are unaware of. If you are an abortion provider and would like your GP practice or clinic listed below, please contact us.
National (telehealth medication abortion services)
Telehealth services are those where medication is sent to you in the mail for you to take at home, after some tests performed locally and consultations with an abortion provider via a phone or video call. There are criteria that must be met in order to access a telehealth abortion, including a gestational cut off of nine weeks. Other requirements differ depending on your provider. Due to legislative restrictions, these services are not available to women living in South Australia, or the ACT. Women in other states may also have to satisfy additional criteria, depending on your state's abortion law; contact the providers for more information.
Telephone: 1300 003 707
Medication abortion only, to 9 weeks gestation.
Instead of attending a Marie Stopes clinic in person you can have your medical abortion consultation at home and connect with a Marie Stopes doctor over the phone or via a video call. No GP referral is required, although you do need to have access to the internet to use this service, and be no further than 56 days (8 weeks) gestation at the time of your phone or video consultation, to ensure time for the medication to reach you in the mail. Qualified nurses are on-call 24 hours a day, and optional decision-making counselling is available for all abortion patients. More information is available on the Marie Stopes website.
In NSW, a referral from a doctor is not required.
